2013 Spirit of Portland Awards: Nominations due September 20th

Nominations are now being accepted for the 29th annual Spirit of Portland awards. If you know of an individual or group who has helped make Portland a better place to live, work, study, pray or play, please nominate them for one of the 2013 awards.

The City Council presents Spirit of Portland Awards each year to individuals and groups who make a difference to the greater community. Please nominate an individual, business, organization, neighborhood or business association that has created a project, service or event that has helped Portland shine!

Celebrated since 1985, the Spirit of Portland award ceremony is an important way for the city to recognize and celebrate those who make a positive difference in our community. Each year, there are roughly 20 winners in various categories. There is no need to specify nomination categories.

How do I nominate someone?

Step One: Complete the nomination form for the organization or individual you want to nominate. All forms are on the Spirit of Portland webpage, click here.

Step Two: Attach a separate sheet telling us how your nominee exemplifies each of the six criteria below. Either number and describe each criterion or tell us a story incorporating all six.

Step Three: Submit these two pages to the Office of Neighborhood Involvement by 4 PM, Friday, Sept. 20.

Award recipients will be chosen based on meeting all six of the following criteria:
Assisting in the implementation of outstanding projects
Enriching and revitalizing our community and neighborhoods
Providing the community with a special service
Demonstrating responsiveness, creativity and civic values
Raising cross-cultural awareness
Acting as good steward of the environment

Awards categories
You don’t need to specify the category. The selection committee will pick the category that best fits your nominee and their activities including:
· Neighborhood Association

· Business Association

· Emerging Community Leader

· Independent Spirit

· Community Stewardship

· Environmental Stewardship

· Community Harmony

· Outstanding Partnership

· Outstanding Organization (nonprofit and/or business)

Remember
· Attach a one-page written narrative along with the nomination form. The Selection Committee will not review additional pages.

· Please address all six criteria listed above in your written narrative.

· Use a 12-point font or greater.

· Award winners in the past are less likely to win, unless involved in a new project. Click here for a list of past winners.

Deadline for submitting nominations is 4 pm, Friday, September 20, 2013
