PORTLAND – $1,500. grants will be awarded for collaborative, community-based projects that improve quality of life in North and Northeast Portland (see list of eligible neighborhoods below)
Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) and the City of Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement are pleased to offer a total of eight grant awards for $1,500 each.
Awards are selected based on the projects’ potential to: increase the diversity of community engagement, strengthen community capacity, and build partnerships and leadership.
During the 2016/2017 grants cycle, Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods funded eight community based projects, with focus areas including: community health, arts & education, cultural celebrations, youth & environmental education and food insecurity.
One of last year’s awardees was the North by Northeast Community Health Clinic, in support of a community health fair, titled “Health on the Corner.” Sharetta Butcher, Community Care Director for the clinic stated: “The health fair has been a dream of our Patient Wellness Council since they formed almost four years ago.” On August 19, 2017, that dream became a reality with help from NECN. The clinic was able to provide services for over 100 community members and patients, including: assistance with signing up for the Oregon Health Plan, vision and eye health checks, as well as, blood pressure screenings and information. North by Northeast Community Health Clinic exists to improve health outcomes and advance health equity by offering primary care services focused on chronic health conditions affecting the local African American population.
NECN received a total of 30 grant applications for 2016/2017. Based on community interest; we expect to receive the same amount or more during the current grant cycle. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend a Grants Information Session/Workshop on Thursday, October 12, 2017 to get full details, have questions answered and network with other potential applicants.
